We accept applications on a rolling basis.
Fundraising interns develop key skills through a fast-paced, multifaceted internship program. Interns are responsible for a number of intricate projects, many of which are self-driven and incredibly valuable to our team’s overall goals. From scouring our database for new prospective donors to tracking down the latest polling results for our next cultivation piece, each day brings another challenge that will help establish a solid foundation for fundraising in the political world.
Interns also have an opportunity to work alongside our strong team of fundraisers, partnering with our development associates as they pilot our principals through call time and complicated travel schedules -- both basic must-know programs for an upcoming political fundraiser.
Our team is high-energy, fast-paced, and ready to go day-in and day-out. We’re looking for detail-oriented, well organized individuals who share our love for funding the work that needs to be done. Fundraising internships are only available at the Burlington, Vermont office.
Electoral interns are crucial leaders in our team that works to recruit, train, identify, and deliver for progressive candidates up and down the ballot. Duties may include but are not limited to: driving our endorsement process forward by researching, vetting and prioritizing DFA's endorsement applicants, assembling backgrounders on top districts for DFA involvement in municipal, state and federal elections, and assisting with interviews and candidate questionnaires. Electoral interns also play key roles in field and fundraising deliverables for our endorsed campaigns - supporting strong GOTV efforts, building massive canvassing and phone banking operations at scale, recruiting and developing the teams of the on-the-ground grassroots leaders it takes to win elections. Electoral interns should be: fired up about learning the art and science of electoral campaigns, and about elections as tools for racial and economic justice; goal-oriented and values-driven; humble leaders and team players; able to meet deadlines, drive projects forward, and responsibly self-organize from a virtual office. Pluses: strong writing and researching skills, ability to work evening hours, experience in recruitment, delegation, or leadership development. Direct political experience not required. For certain roles on the internship team, travel is possible.
As an intern with the Democracy for America Organizing Department you will have the opportunity to learn by doing within a member driven political action committee, focused on electing progressive champions across the country, at all levels of government. You’ll help organize members, teach grassroots organizing skills, identify leaders, and, most importantly, win campaigns.
Members are the backbone of DFA, and you will gain first hand knowledge of grassroots organizing from forming relationships with members to organizing mass actions and supporting local DFA groups around the country.
The organizing internship requires a commitment to build the progressive movement and elect progressive champions, at all levels of government, now and in the future.
Organizing internships must be completed remotely.
Social Media / Digital interns work with our Communications and Digital departments to organize online, promote DFA's work, and keep DFA in the news and relevant in the 24/7 news cycle. Using a variety of social media platforms, interns help drive the social media presence of DFA. Do you yell at your TV when a news anchor gets a key fact wrong about a political campaign your following? Or have you participated in a grassroots tweetstorm or responded to an editorial in your local newspaper spreading fake news? If so, this paid, part-time internship is for you.
