Delegate Lashrecse Aird was elected in November 2015 to represent the 63rd District, which includes five economically distressed localities. She holds the special distinction of being the youngest woman ever elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, offering fresh perspective, renewed vigor and refreshing ideas.

Born in Buffalo, New York in humbling circumstances, her father’s naval duty moved her family to Newport News where she resided until relocating to Petersburg to attend college. After graduating from VSU she worked as legislative aide for four years, partnering with community leaders on key issues.

Delegate Aird remains active in her community through serving as chair of the 4th Congressional District Committee for the Democratic Party of Virginia. In addition, she is Chair of the Petersburg Democratic Committee; and a former member of the Petersburg Planning Commission and the Governor’s Council on Women.

In addition to her undergraduate education, she is a graduate of the University of Virginia’s Sorensen Political Leadership Program; a graduate of the American Council on Education Virginia Network for Women in Higher Education’s Senior Leadership Seminar and has completed coursework at Virginia Commonwealth University toward a Master’s in Public Administration.

Delegate Aird has been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including being named to the Virginia Leadership Institute’s Top Ten Leaders under Forty; the recipient of Virginia State University’s Presidential Medallion; and the Young Trojan Distinguished Alumni Award for two consecutive years.

Lashrecse and her husband Blaine are long-time residents of Petersburg where they are raising two young boys.
