Aurora Martinez Jones
459th District Judge
Aurora Martinez Jones is a first-generation American and the proud daughter of immigrants, her mother from Jamaica and her father from Mexico. Aurora grew up in the Houston area and attended college at the University of Texas at Austin where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in government and her law degree. Upon receiving her law license, Aurora started her own law firm, The Martinez Jones Law Firm, PLLC. As an attorney, Aurora practiced primarily in child welfare law, real estate, family law, and civil litigation.
Aurora is a Child Welfare Law Specialist, Certified by the National Association of Counsel for Children and has extensive experience working with parents suffering from drug and alcohol addiction. Aurora is currently on the Children’s Justice Act Task Force, a Board Member for the Travis County Women Lawyers Foundation, and a Board Member for the Girls Empowerment Network (GEN) Austin. Aurora is active in both the local Austin Bar Association and Texas State Bar through her service on various committees and her former role on the Board of Directors for the Texas Young Lawyers Association.
In 2015, Aurora was sworn in as Associate Judge in Travis County for the Civil District Courts, presiding over child welfare dockets, including Family Drug Treatment Court and Permanent Managing Conservatorship docket, reviewing all Travis County cases with foster children in the permanent care of CPS.
Travis County has a new court, the 459th, and an old problem, the growing docket of family law and Child Protective Services cases. As a County Associate Judge, Aurora led local reform efforts to provide a more compassionate, trauma-informed and efficient process towards child welfare cases. Now it is time for an experienced judge like Aurora Martinez, to provide clear leadership in the 459th District Court and passionately abide by the progressive values of justice and equality.
