Berkeley City Council, District 7
Starting as UC Berkeley’s External Affairs Vice President in his first year of college, Rigel Robinson quickly realized the vastly different issues that faced the student body of 40,000. Responsible for advocating for the narratives of all 40,000, Rigel led a protest in opposition of the 2014 Tuition Hikes which had a turnout of over 1,000 students. Rigel believes there is nothing more powerful than a student body organizing and taking action. In the city of Berkeley, students make up nearly a third of the population yet there is no elected representation. Passionate about his alma mater, but recognizing the challenges facing the student body, Rigel is advocating for better conditions of education. This includes police accountability, support for the homeless, affordable housing, and racial equity. Nobody knows what issues face the student population better than students themselves which is why as a member of City Council, Rigel Robinson will create a seat at the table for students.
