Julie von Haefen
North Carolina State House, District 36
Julie von Haefen is an experienced public education advocate with almost 10 years of experience as a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) leader at the school, county and state level in North Carolina. Julie is running for the North Carolina State House because she cannot stand on the sidelines while the current state legislature dismantles the North Carolina public school system through harmful tax cuts and the funneling of state money to private charter schools.
Julie became involved in her local PTA when the oldest of her three children entered the Wake County Public School System. She went on to become the PTA President at Washington GT Magnet Elementary School in Raleigh for two years. She currently serves as the President of the Wake County PTA Council.
In addition to her work with PTA, Julie is a certified Guardian ad Litem in Wake County and is a Meals on Wheels volunteer. Julie and her family are members of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Apex. She received her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University and her law degree from Case Western Reserve University. She practiced law for 10 years in a variety of areas including criminal law, medical malpractice defense, municipal law and education law.
Julie von Haefen is running to make a difference in the North Carolina State House and bring progressive solutions to the complex issues facing the residents of District 36 like improving public education, expanding healthcare access, and pusher for greater environmental responsibility.
