Wisconsin State Assembly, District 90
Kristina Shelton is a Democratic candidate for Wisconsin’s 90th Assembly District. She is a local leader with a passion for public education, community building, and the environment. She currently serves as Program Director for the YWCA Greater Green Bay. In 2018, she won a highly competitive race for Green Bay School Board. She lives on the east side of Green Bay with her husband Jon and their children, Sara and Keith.
Kristina’s decision to run for Assembly was two fold:
She believes the challenges we face deserve a leader willing to step up. From climate change, to rising health care costs, ballooning student loan debt, and the calculated de-funding and destruction of public education, Wisconsin and the Green Bay area have serious issues to address. Kristina is ready to take on these fights with courage and speed.
District 90 deserves equal and ethical representation. Because of extreme partisan gerrymandering, voters in the 90th district (as are all Democratic voters in the state) progressive voters are already underrepresented in the state legislature. Additionally, current Representative, Staush Gruszynski, has been stripped of all of his committee assignments (due to a sexual harassment incident with a staffer) - including the extremely important Water Quality Task Force. So, if voters re-elect Staush (who is has not stepped down and is running again), the voters in the district will continue to lose their voice in the legislative process.
For 20 years, Kristina has worked alongside different constituencies to create healthier, more equitable communities where all kids, families, and citizens thrive. Kristina is a progressive and activist. She walks the walk and talks the talk. Kristina believes we are currently facing the most pressing and time-sensitive issues of our time: -the right to a job with a living wage -universal health care and reproductive rights -high-quality, fully funded public education -workforce housing -climate change and conservation Kristina believes voters deserve to be represented by elected leaders with courage, integrity, and humility, and by those who lead with the people’s will.
