VICTORY: DFA energized by “Progressive rising star” Jamaal Bowman’s win in NY-16
Progressive rising star, Jamaal Bowman has been officially elected to represent New York’s 16th Congressional District.
Democracy for America (DFA) endorsed Bowman leading up to his primary election, and supported him during the general election.
Bowman’s district was listed safely Democratic after his historic upset primary victory, in which he defeated 16-term incumbent and corporate Dem, Eliot Engel by a landslide.
DFA Chair Charles Chamberlain on Jamal Bowman’s progressive victory in New York’s 16th Congressional District:
“Jamaal Bowman’s primary victory in June was one of the most important progressive wins of the 2020 cycle and his triumph tonight offically sends the trailblazing, progressive coalition he used to defeat a 30+ year establishment politician to Washington.
“An unflinching leader on matters that DFA members care about most, like Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, and the battle for robust criminal justice reform, Congressman-elect Bowman’s rise to the forefront of progressive movement provides an exciting glimpse of what kind of change is possible when we send the a New American Majority of Black, brown, and white progressives to Congress to fight for inclusive populism.
“Congress has another powerful addition to ‘The Squad’ in Jamaal Bowman, and we can’t wait to continue fighting alongside him in the years to come.” -- Charles Chamberlain, Chair, Democracy for America
